Here at St James’ Lanehead Primary School, we are very lucky to have a very close relationship with St James’ Church. The Reverends of St James’ Church are regular visitors to our school with Father Peter delivering a worship assembly every Tuesday. The children love Tuesday worship as Father Peter has been visiting our school for quite some time and has built up great relationships with our pupils. Father Peter is also on our Governing Board and comes into school for regular meetings; Father Peter and our other Governors work very hard behind the scenes to help St James’ Lanehead and the St James’ children flourish.
The new Reverend of St James’ Church is Father Paul. Father Paul comes into school to lead our Whole School Worships and our celebratory services such as Easter (take a look at the pictures of Father Paul’s “out-of-the-box” service with a very exciting take on the Last Supper!) As well as this, he also comes into school to assist our class teacher’s with their Religious Education lessons. Take a look at the pictures below of Father Paul’s lesson in action!
Recently, the Year 6 children visited St James’ Church. Here they spoke to Father Paul and he gave them a guided tour of the church grounds. The children had a wonderful time and even took part in a sing-along with Father Paul on the piano! It was a heartwarming moment for all involved.

About Father Paul
Born in Bacup, Father Paul spent his early years in Burnley before heading south to Devon and Hertfordshire. Returning to Burnley for secondary school, he attended the now non-existent Townley High School. He studied in London in the late 1970’s after which he worked in a variety of settings before being ordained priest. Recent years have seen Father Paul serving as a locum priest in Europe. He is delighted to be appointed interim priest at St James’ Briercliffe on a part-time fixed-term basis with a brief to support the parish in developing a vision for future ministry and mission. An exciting part of this vision is growing closer links with St James’ Lanehead (VA) Primary School.
