St James’ Lanehead received a visit from Lightning, one of Santa’s reindeer, on Tuesday 11th December 2018. Lightning left a trail of hay and carrots throughout school that the classes then had to follow onto the playground to meet him.
The Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children were paired up to go and visit Lightening and his accompanying elf. The children all loved the visit and all of St James’ are now feeling very festive and ready for more activities in the coming weeks.
As part of the School Improvement Plan to improve our learning environment, we invited a local street artist, Jamie, to come and decorate our school.
Jamie worked with the children to create the designs based on our Christian Values and what they think being a St James’ pupil means. Once the designs were created and the spray cans were filled, Jamie went to work and even let the children join in!
Take a look at the pictures to see the children with Jamie in action and also the finished product.
We had a fantastic morning when Florence Nightingale visited school with her friend, Sidney Herbert. We found out all about Florence’s life before dressing up and becoming nurses and soldiers ourselves! We examined real Victorian medical and cleaning equipment and compared it to what is used in hospitals today.
“I learnt that hospitals need to be clean.” Sami M
“I learnt that Florence was very kind to all of the soldiers.” Georgie A
“I learnt that Florence Nightingale was born in 1820 and died in 1910.” Fynn S
“I thought this morning was fantastic and I loved dressing up!” Lily P
