Hazel class had a fantastic first ‘Forest school’ session! The children went searching in the forest for facts about Hazel trees. They even all gave a hazel nut a try! After that they went and tried to identify the trees in the forest using their tree ID dials. They were very excited to discover a horse chestnut and can’t wait for the conkers to arrive!
We used our first tool, a palm drill, to make a name necklace. The children worked really well together and persevered as it was very challenging making the hole for the string. The children are very excited for their next forest school activity.
Isabela M- ‘I enjoyed learning facts about my class name and trying a hazel nut was very exciting.’
Kyle T- ‘It was very challenging to make the name necklace but I was very happy to see what I had made by the end of the activity.’
As we all get used to being back in school, we are continuing to use our outside area to enhance the curriculum. However, we have big plans for developing our Forest School further and we will be investing heavily in staff training and resources over the 2020-2021 academic year. We will keep you informed as our Forest School develops further!
