On the 30th April, four of our Year 5 and 6 pupils were chosen to represent St James’ and what an amazing event it was! First, we watched the girls race. The race was a long one and the girls followed the advice given to them at the start and started slow so that they weren’t worn out later on, especially with the heat. Part way through the race we saw the girls running out of the trees and we cheered them all the way to the finish line. We started to go to the race start, (The hares set off, these are the runners that show us the way).
Our St James’ boys then took part in the second race. Here, one of our St James’ pupils explains what happened during the boys’ race:
“They (the girls) were right it was hot and it was a long race, I had to beat my position I got in the last race time. I could see the finish line, I ran, I could here the girls cheering. I crossed the finishing line. I’d done it, all the boys can now run for school again and represent Burnley in the Lancashire race. Thank you for all the support and encouragement that you gave us. ”
Overall, the cross country event went really well and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We cannot wait for the next opportunity to take part in the cross country event and watch our St James’ children flourish.
